About Us
The title of this blog is weird. I realize that.
Growing up in Taiwan means that you will inevitably need to correct people who assume that you live in Thailand. Or maybe they simply don't know the difference between the two countries. So in a weird way, we developed a bit of a grudge against Thailand, for no other reason than it had better name recognition than our beloved Taiwan.
But now we are moving to Thailand! While will always love Taiwan, we are so excited to learn a new country, a new culture, make new friends, eat new food, and embrace all that this next chapter has to offer!
Nathan was a year old when his parents moved from Virginia to Hong Kong to serve as missionaries with Pioneers. He lived in both Hong Kong and Taiwan before returning to the States to attend Malone University in Canton, OH. Nathan received a BA in Communication Studies from Malone in 2004.
Shannon was nearly a teenager when her parents moved from Louisiana to Taiwan to serve as missionaries with the International Mission Board. She returned to the States after high school to attend Taylor University in Upland, IN. Shannon received a BS in Social Work from Taylor in 2004.
Nathan and Shannon were married in June 2004 prior to moving to La Mirada, CA for seminary. Nathan attended Talbot Seminary and received his Masters of Divinity in August 2009. Shannon received a Masters in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach in May 2007.
During the years in California, Nathan served as the Youth Pastor at Green Hills Baptist Church in La Habra, CA. God provided opportunity to learn and grow in this ministry setting, but there was always the call to serve Him overseas as missionaries.
In the Fall of 2008, we began the process of applying with Systematic Asian Leadership Training (SALT) and were accepted to serve as missionaries. During the support-raising process, we lived in Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina. In Michigan, Nathan served as Interim Minister of Outreach at Calvary Bible Church in Kalamazoo. In North Carolina, we attended the Center for Intercultural Training as preparation for our move to Hong Kong.
