For Daniel

Poor Daniel. I'm not going to remember anything about his life as a one-year-old if I don't write it down! Here are some things about Daniel...

Ever since he started to understand "no" around 11 months, he has shown a sense of shame for doing wrong things. When he is scolded, he will often lower his head and want a hug. This is significant because we don't remember Josiah ever (or now) feeling much shame for wrong doing.

Daniel is not quite as verbal at this age as Josiah was, but I think he uses about 20 words/sounds to communicate. He used to call Josiah "guh-gah-wah" followed by a growl. So it was "gun-gah-wah-(growl)", but he doesn't really say it anymore, and I'm not sure I ever got a video of it. He calls me "ah-mee." Sometimes calls Nathan "da-dee" and othertimes calls him "boppa," which is what he calls Papa.

Daniel loves animals and is not afraid of them at all. He will play with and pet any dog or cat that lets him. Josiah maintains a healthy respect for the furry friends.

Since he was 6 months old, Daniel has had a constant waterfall flowing out of his mouth. He didn't get any teeth until he was a year, and just like Josiah, only got a small bit of a bottom tooth 12 months. Now, at nearly 18 months, he has 4 top teeth, 2 bottom teeth, plus 4 molars. He teeth seem to be following the same pattern Josiah's did. I don't know if all the drooling is related to the teeth or not. Josiah never drooled like this, but Daniel usually soaks his shirt several times throughout the day. If I leave his shirt off, the drool runs down his belly and gets his shorts wet. If I leave him in just a diaper, the drool ends up dripping on the floor and he slips on it!

Daniel loves this picture at the Torgerson's house. Whenever he sees it, he walks up to it and puts this cheesy grin on his face. Smiles are contagious!

Daniel loves soy milk. Here are my two boys with their preferred box drinks, chocolate milk on the left and the beloved Hong Kong VitaSoy on the right.

Daniel loves balls, specifically kicking them. He will walk back and forth in the house, kicking a ball, for long periods of time. If we go to the ball court, Daniel will happily kick a ball around while Josiah rollerblades, or plays baseball, or whatever else.

On this day, we were playing in the rain and wind from the outer bands of a typhoon.

And a video of the action:

Comments

  1. Loved the pictures and video. If Daniel doesn't play soccer when he grows up I'll really be surprised.
