Things We Will Miss, Part 4: Transportation

In this series, I will attempt to record some of the most meaningful elements from our seven years in Hong Kong. These years have been hard and good. We have felt alone and at home. Some things we will not miss at all, but others we will miss dearly. I will always be more practical than sentimental, but that should not discount the depth of appreciation that we have for the people, places, memories, opportunities, and growth that has happened during our time in Hong Kong.

Well, not really. We are very much looking forward to having a family car.

Very much looking forward to putting all the children inside a vehicle and moving them from one place to another without worrying about whether their wet bike seats will make their bums wet the rest of the day or whether we all have money on our octopus cards or whether there will be seats on the bus or whether we will miss the ferry.

Very much looking forward to filling a car with groceries instead of only buying as much as I can fit on my bike.

But yesterday, we took 5 different forms of transportation, which is interesting and unique and probably won't happen as much in Thailand.

Yesterday we...

rode our bikes to the bus stop. (5 minutes)

took a bus. (45 minutes)

walked to the ferry pier. (10 minutes)

took a ferry. (30 minutes)

got picked up by a friend in their car. (20 minutes)

Then we went back home...

our friend drove us to the MTR station. (20 minutes)

we rode the MTR. (45 minutes)

we took a different ferry. (60 minutes)

we walked to our bikes. (10 minutes)

we biked back home. (5 minutes)

This picture from yesterday pretty much summarizes the list above.

Oh, Hong Kong. We will miss so many things.
But we won't miss hours of transportation just to visit friends that live in the same city.
