Backpacks galore!

Before our friend Heather visited earlier in November, we ordered several things and had them sent to her... all of those things falling in the bag category. After being here several months and biking and using public transportation, we have realized the importance of the backpack.

Nathan's messenger bag for commuting just wasn't very comfortable, plus parts of it were broken. So he got a nifty new backpack with lots of pockets. It might not be as cool to commute with a backpack, but it's much more comfortable.

In anticipation of biking with two children, wearing the little one, and generally continuing to walk a lot, I got a diaper bag backpack. Only, most of the diaper bag backpacks are either designed for dads or are super expensive. So a dad bag it is!

And the most nifty part is this handy little wipe dispenser on the front of the bag.
And the big thing we were most excited about was this Kelty child carrier that we got a great deal on! Now we can explore all the trails around where we live and not have to think about whether it's too much for Josiah to handle. Unfortunately, we currently have to think about whether it's too much for ME to handle! But soon... two kids + two different carriers = MOUNTAINS!!!

Recently we hiked part of a 9km trail from Mui Wo to Pui O. We made it to the gazebo about 2.5km in before I realized that it would be more wise if we turned around and went back instead of pushing myself to finish the 9km.

Thankfully, the gazebo was a pretty cool stopping place.

Here's a view of the big city.

And looking the other direction, a view of Papa's island (the one in the distance).

And though Josiah did ride in the carrier, he proved to us that he can do quite a lot more than we realized. But of course, we needed the safety net of the child carrier to venture too far down a trail. I'm glad our little guy likes to hike!

  2. Awesome! Question about the diaper bag backpack...does the wipe dispenser actually keep the wipes moist or do they dry out after a while? I am REALLY liking that backpack!
