Nepal: The Training

The goal of a SALT training is to give church leaders a "bucketful" of Biblical information and understanding in an easy to grasp format that they can successfully hand off to another church leader without losing much of the content of the bucket.

This is generally different from the education model found in Western countries. Think back to one of your high school or college classes... and the "bucketful" of information that the teacher gave you over the course of the class. How much of that bucket could you have given to someone else? The whole thing? A decent summary? 2 sentences?

We want SALT students to be able to pass the whole bucket to another local pastor.

This was the first trip SALT has done to Nepal. And we partnered with Calvary Bible Church in Kalamazoo, MI, where Nathan and I spent 10 months before coming to Hong Kong.

So we had 2 SALT trainers...

...and 2 Calvary trainers.

Nathan did Skype coaching sessions with Jeff (above) and Tim (below) over the past few months. And they did a great job teaching!

Though the educational level and culture of education is different from anywhere else SALT has gone, adjustments were able to be made to fit the needs of these pastors.

They were given plenty of time to review.

And plenty of time to practice.

And there was plenty of fun to be had as well.

There was always a daily break for lunch.

And then more teaching, reviewing, and practicing.

A SALT training always ends with a Faith Plan. Those receiving the training share specific details about who they will pass their "bucket" to in the next few months. The pastors trained in Nepal were very motivated and by God's grace we will see many more church leaders trained as their Faith Plans are put into action.

About the overall training, one pastor said:
"It was hard but the teachers taught at my level which is why I learned so many things. I got the full bucket, and I don't want to drop it or let it go. I want to pass it to others."

Praise God!

  1. Thanks for the update. It reminded us again of the importance of not dropping the baton. It was encouraging to see the action shots, faces, and peek into the hungry hearts of the pastors.
