Taiwan

Over a month ago, we went to Taiwan. It was great. We love Taiwan.

Of course, getting there was not so great.
We left on Wednesday after a big typhoon had come through Monday night.

I'll spare you the details, but basically we arrived at the airport at 9:30 am for a 12:05 pm flight and did not actually take off until around 6:30 pm. Ugh. Long day. We were served dinner on the tarmac while the door was still open. The airline even had dinner for Daniel.

Since we landed about 6 hours later than we originally thought, we considered getting a hotel at the airport instead of making the trip straight down to Taichung as planned. But as we were considering hotel options, both boys fell asleep and so we decided to just go all the way. They both slept on the bus to the High Speed Rail station, during the 40 minute HSR ride, and then in the taxi to Morrison. Of course, when we got out of the taxi at 11pm, dogs barked and woke both boys up.
An excellent end to a long day. :)

We stayed on our old high school campus (Morrison Academy) for several days in order to attend the 60th Homecoming. It was great. We got to spend lots of time talking to old friends and teachers. The campus was pretty much an amusement park for Josiah... pool, playground, grass, people. The boy had a great time and was often quite tired, as evidenced by the fact that he fell asleep in the taxi on the way to a banquet dinner. So we just stuck him on the floor in the corner of the room.

Anyway, after some fun days in Taichung, we headed to Taipei to visit my parents. By the way, I have no real pictures of our entire trip, but I did take a bunch of pictures of the HSR we took to Taipei. The 45 minute trip from Taichung to Taipei sure beats the sometimes 3.5 bus ride I used to make as a dorm student. So here comes the train.

It's quite clean and spacious on the inside.

Spacious enough to roll the stroller in the rows.

They also serve food and drinks.
Although Nathan bought this nasty smelling treat at 7-11 in the station before we left.

The ride offers a great view of the Taiwan countryside.

Also the highway.

Again, both boys fell asleep. (Josiah is sleeping in the stroller.)

So Taipei was great. Good times with family, good food, good walks with my husband while the boys stayed home with grandparents. On one walk, we found this fish. US $1,000 dollars for this fish.

We also managed to get this family picture.

And then we left.
Of course, we were delayed again (not a fan of Hong Kong Airlines at this point), but not as long.

We'll see you again soon, Taiwan!

(And now maybe I'll catch up on blogging and stay caught up. Maybe.)
