The One Week

The thing about living in a non-insulated concrete and tile box is that even though that box is located in a tropical climate it still gets cold like one week a year. And really whether or not it is cold for more than one week depends on your definition of cold. But you're just really hoping that this is the only week with these temperatures.

Because 6.5 degrees Celsius (43F) with 90% humidity is cold both outside and inside of the concrete box. And all you want to do is sit in the one room of the house that is warm and snuggle with blankets.

The only reason that only room in the house is warm is because you only have one space heater. Because the weather didn't bother to get this cold until Chinese New Year week when stores are closed and you couldn't buy another heater. (Although you did just a few hours ago, thankfully!)

Also, there happens to be a baby in the house that likes to be REALLY warm. So the heat gets concentrated where he sleeps the most. And clearly if you are going to snuggle with blankets all day, you don't care what your hair looks like.

See that look on Josiah's face? It is a scary look for someone recovering from surgery and holding a newborn.

Thankfully, the sunshine should be coming back over the weekend and the temperatures should be back up in the high teens (60's). And that is still plenty cold, especially since you looked through the suitcase of winter clothes and realized that you didn't really bring any to Hong Kong. I guess you were planning to layer your clothes. But layering short sleeves doesn't really make sense.

Did I mention that these fat cheeks like to be warm? He gets wrapped in blankets in ways that I will never post online because it just looks unsafe.

Today I am thankful for babies and big boys and blankets and space heaters and hot chocolate and sweatshirts and socks and living in a tropical climate!

  1. A great set of pictures, I enjoyed seeing all the people (and hair styles are not a big deal).
