Columbus Part 1: The Dagwood

On Friday, we went with Nana to see some friends from Hong Kong who are on furlough in Columbus. While Nana stayed at the house and talked, the 3 of us went to have some fun. A couple of weeks ago, while watching Man vs. Food we learned about The Dagwood. The Dagwood is a sandwich at The Ohio Deli with 2.5 pounds of meat. If eaten with the pound of french fries (and a pickle) that it comes with in less than 30 minutes, you get a t-shirt. Of course, Nathan had to go for it. And since it only cost $8.69, I cheered him on whole heartedly.

Nathan and Joe are having a pre-game chat.

Nathan receives The Dagwood.

This is only half of the sandwich.

There was not much talking during these 30 minutes.

Mid-chew, Nathan dives into the second half.

He takes a break for some fries.

But ultimately, after 25 intense minutes of eating, he could eat no more. The salty, fatty meat had taken its toll and though he still had time, he had absolutely no desire to finish. And he has no regrets.

Come back tomorrow to see what I did while Nathan ate.

  1. wow Nathan.... i don't know whether to be completely amazed and enthralled at this feat, or slightly sickened.... i think i will go with the first option. in my personal opinion, there should be a better prize then just a t-shirt; possibly free sandwiches for a year! but ya know, whatever, lol

  2. So, does the young generation know WHY the sandwich is called "The Dagwood"?

  3. Matt would totally support this quest of Nathan's and we would likely partake himself, if we ever found ourselves in Ohio again (not likely)... I look forward to seeing what you and Joe did during Nathan's solo adventure!

  4. If it was 2.5 lbs of Clifton pancakes it would have been no problem.
