A Week in NC: Part 1

A few weeks ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. After some initial testing in Taiwan, my parents decided to come back to the States for treatment. And since we hadn't seen them since January, Josiah and I flew down for a week. Regarding the breast cancer, there isn't much news to share yet. Though a biopsy was done in Taiwan, the doctor here wants another one in order to gather more info. So she'll have that done next week, along with some other testing. By the middle of this month, there should be some decisions made regarding treatment. In the mean time, my mom is feeling great, so we had lots of fun while in North Carolina.

This post includes all the random pictures from the week. Here we are in the Detroit Airport Delta Sky Lounge. Josiah is lounging while drinking orange juice from a can - he was very excited.

And now devouring a muffin. He also had golden raisins for the first time, which he was also quite excited about. It would be terrible to only have normal raisins in the special secret airport lounge.

And these are the people we went to see! (Along with lots of other relatives!)

Josiah has named them Paca and Amah. Paca because when he initially tried to say grandpa, he said ca-pa, and after that he just reversed it. And Amah because that's what he said when I told him to say grandma. So we'll see what sticks over the next few years!

Josiah enjoyed playing the piano and learned about high and low.

He was always very silly.

I bought him an orange bouncy ball for a quarter out of a machine and it brought much joy, especially when we re-found it multiple times in the grass and car.

Josiah got to ride on the horse of the swing set we used to play on as kids.

And he apparently learned to hike a football.

He got to color with grandma.

And play with random toys we found in the missionary house.

Bubbles are always a favorite. Well, his favorite. Not mine so much anymore.

I got to spend an evening with a friend from middle school in Taiwan. So great to catch up with you, Stephanie!

We got to visit relatives on the farm.

And best of all (according to Josiah), was the big truck he got to ride in to go see the cows.

(Flashback: Nathan in a big truck in Virginia. Nathan was almost a year younger than Josiah, but clearly also enjoying the big truck.)

And then I had to force him out of the big truck so we could go home.

That concludes the random pictures that don't fit into the categories of hiking or animals. And of course, I didn't take pictures of everything we did. There was also lots of reading books, swimming, playing on slides, etc. But more to come the next few days on rocks and waterfalls and chickens, cats, and ducks!

  2. BTW--the photo with Nathan--I happen to know that Nathan's finger was all wrapped up from severing it in a door. Did you photoshop that out?
