Seriously? In America?
On our way to Ohio this past weekend we stopped at a Rest Area. It was a small one, but it had the normal official blue sign. See?
There was also a Historical Marker about a nursing home fire that killed 63 of 84 patients; 21 of the bodies were unclaimed. The story was overshadowed by the Kennedy assassination, but led to the requirement of sprinklers and automatic fire detection systems in all nursing homes. Interesting. And sad.
Behind the building with the restrooms was a nice grassy picnic area. So with official signs and a nice grassy area, I assumed the toilet situation would hold to some sort of modern standard.
And yet...
Two stalls. With no doors. And the outside door does not lock without a key.
I can handle holes in the ground and a lack of facilities to wash my hands, but no doors? Really? Who in their right mind would ever use the toilet closest to the door unless you had already peaked around the corner to awkwardly find someone else peeing and you had to pee so very very badly that you wouldn't mind when the other person walked back past you and opened the door so that the outside world could see...? Actually, I should've used the one closest to the door, it was probably cleaner.
Good thing I don't care all that much about germs or modesty. I just assumed that the rest of America did.
very comical post....and while i know you are fine with these things in developing countries, it is amazing that america still has them...at least there was tp....and for no charge...yet!
ReplyDelete"modesty"? Oh come on now, such an outdated idea (am I supposed to add sarcasm alert?)
