Schooling in HK is a bit crazy. And I realize that is a very judgmental statement, but I assure you that most locals would agree with me. Interviews for entrance into Kindergarten, Kindergarten starting at age 2 years 8 months, school applications submitted as soon as your child is born to ensure admittance, elementary age children commuting for hours each day, etc. I'll write more about schooling later. For now, just a couple of pictures.

These kids commute via ferry from Mui Wo to Discovery Bay (both on Lantau Island) everyday. Their parents drop them off for the 7:45 ferry. Some eat breakfast on the ferry, some do homework, most just hang out. This is relatively easy commute... only a 25 minute ferry and then a 5 minute bus ride.

And don't worry, the ferry is safe...

because plastic bottles are used to cover all the sharp points. :)
